8 Natural Ways To Remove Under-Eye Dark Circles
Have you thought about ways to remove your under-eye dark circles permanently? Does your under-eye area get darker during the summer? Do you look at your fab self in the mirror and see those pesky dark patches, fine lines or wrinkles under and around your eyes and feel deflated? Do you want to wave 'buh-bye' to them forever?

Then let's start with the causative factors. As holistic natural skin-wellness practitioners, our approach is to look inward. So what is the root cause of your under-eye dark circles, puffy eyes and fine lines?
Some possible causes include -
- Continuous Blue Light Exposure
- No skincare routine, especially after a long day
- Left over make-up
- Sleep Deprivation
- Extreme Fatigue
- Stress
- Allergic reaction to a product
- Hay Fever/Seasonal Allergies
- Deficiencies in Vitamins B12, E, K & D
- It can be a sign of liver disease
Some of these causes may resonate with you. However, it could also be hereditary. A quick test is to stretch the skin with clean fingers gently. If it darkens further, that could be hereditary and down to your genes or ageing. A caution here is that we are not giving you any medical advice; please consult your doctor or GP for this. We are just sharing natural tips based on our experience.
1. Take regular, scheduled breaks from your screen
Believe it or not, prolonged screen exposure is one of the leading causes of dark circles. This is because the skin around your eye area is fragile and most affected by too much screen time. So step away from your screen after every hour of continuous screen activity. This includes your mobile phone screen, television screen, laptop screen... every screen that emits blue light.

2. Intentionally go to bed early enough to get the recommended 8 hours of beauty sleep
This is a no-brainer. It is only logical that tired-looking eyes result from sleep deprivation. Get more sleep!. Our lives can be so busy that getting the extra 1 - 2 hours of snooze time can feel like a luxury. Well, it only takes some intentional micro steps. Start with a 'go-to bed' alarm at least 30 minutes before your targeted time, and make an effort to be in bed so that you are asleep by your targeted time. Say I want to go to bed by 10.00 pm. I will try to be in bed by 9.30 pm. Another tip to maximise your snooze time is to leave your phone charging in a separate room. This simple step will do wonders for those pesky dark circles if you commit to this activity for the next 21 days.

3. Load up on your Vitamins
Vitamins B12, E, K, and D deficiency could manifest as dark under-eye circles. So to rule this out, visit your GP to book a health check/ test, find out what vitamins you are deficient in, and load up on those vitamins and supplements. Then, if this deficiency is the culprit behind your dark circles, watch them disappear almost overnight!

4. Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Sunhat
I keep telling people about the importance of sunscreen until I'm blue in the face, but it still doesn't stop most people from skipping this all-important aspect of your beauty routine. Get a mineral sunscreen preferably because it is free from many harmful ingredients in a chemical sunscreen and eco-friendly. The sun can make under-eye dark circles worse, so try to reduce the penetration of those rays around your eyes by applying sunscreen, wearing sunglasses to shade your poor eyes and throwing in a sunhat for good measure!

5. Face rollers + Cold Compress
A face roller is not just a pretty utensil you bought last year and never used. It is beneficial in draining excess water from under your eyes and can be used to apply a cold compress. Just pop it into the fridge and roll outwards on your face, using the smaller stone beneath your eyes after your facial cleansing routine.

6. Concealers & Make-up
You can choose to conceal the dark circles with make-up but remember that your goal should be to have overall great skin and not just to cover up perceived imperfections. It's best to look at this as a temporary measure; the aim should be to eliminate those dark circles permanently. Your concealer should be applied to the inner corners of your eyes and outwards. Make sure you blend well and downwards. Remember to choose a colour that complements your skin tone, such as one with a peachy undertone, as this is universal and appeals to most skin tones.

7. Take away all your make-up before bedtime.
Take this advice if you do not want to look 20 years older or start to age prematurely. No matter how tired you are, you MUST remove your make-up before going to bed every night. Sleeping with your make-up on is just gross. The most effective way to clear your make-up is to cleanse with a water-based cleanser and oil-based cleansing balm.
